College Sports Isn’t Right

After doing my observation and duoethnography, not only have I learned different ideas but I actually got a chance to see how student athletes feel. Hearing everybody stories really open my eyes up about things I could never realize just doing research. Doing my observation made me realize how tired players really were. Which made me feel sad and  really want a change.

The solution that I came up with was pay every athlete the same amount of money across the NCAA so kids wouldn’t go to certain college just to get more money. But pay them on how much merchandise they sell such as jerseys, bobble heads, and etc. Then they should have a dining area thats up 24/7 for them.

Another solution you can do is have money saved up for the athletes after college, so they can at least be stable when they leave college. It shows them that you appreciate them for their hard work that they put in for your university. It also will prevent kids to go over seas to play professional for a little bit of money instead they will go to college and get their degrees. Then not only that, kids would want to stay in college longer instead of trying to leave college early to try and go professional.

WE WANT STUDENT ATHLETES TO GET PAID TO PLAY

Insight of a College Athlete

Doing Research about college athletes and how the NCAA is not doing them justice has taught me a lot. But I actually wanted to go deeper in my research and actually went to go interview a couple of college athlete on my campus. The question I was asking them were,  ” how does it feel for going to college for free.” Then what is it like trying to play football and going to college. Last how does it make you feel knowing the university is making all this money from you guys and you all only getting like 5 percent of it.

All of the football players had the same answer.” It feel good going to college for free, but sometime I think to myself  is it really worth it.” Going. deeper into it, they know they are getting treated wrong but they have no choice but to accept it because their dream is to go to the NFL. Not only that if they try to argue it and go on strike, all the coach is going to do is replace them. So what choice do they really have. It make me feel like its just a different version of slavery all over again in just a smarter way.

Just Pay us for Our Work

58cfd1f01d000028007cf4c8Growing up, I always wanted to play college football. Every Saturday I would go to my football games and go straight home to watch college football. Not knowing the guys I’m looking up to are working this hard but not getting paid at all. My dream as a kid was to start varsity for my high school, and getting a D-1 offer so my mom didn’t have to pay for me to go to college. Like I didn’t care where it was I just wanted people to come watch me to play on Saturdays and be on TV. When I got to high school finally starting varsity my sophomore year doing pretty good. Didn’t start playing really dominating until my junior year, where I start getting offers coming in. Still not knowing how hard they are really working and struggling. Because every time you go on a visit, they make it seem like everything is wonderful, you’re going to have a time of your life. They give you so much free time. Saying all of this just to get you to go there. When I finally came to Ball State to play, it was terrible. Never really had free time, always busy with classes and football everyday.

Working like we have a career job, not getting paid. It was just miserable. Then struggling to eat after they last meal they feed you which is lunch and then trying to go out and buy the things you want like clothes and groceries. Then knowing they are making millions of dollars off the athletes. This is why I think we should get paid.
